Virtual Innovators Academy is a new fully remote high school for first-year grade 9 and grade 10 students ONLY who reside in NYC . The school opened virtually on September 8, 2022 and will accept rising grade 8 students each year until we have students in grades 9-12.

Ms. Khanis

A big congratulations to Ethel Khanis for earning the distinction of Demos Classroom Fellowship. Ms. Khanis will be in Denver from June 27-29 refining the way that virtual schools like VIA use the Desmos platform.

About Us

We provide high school students with rigorous, personalized, state of the art instruction with a project-based learning approach so that they can impact their communities. Students learn remotely at home, but have access to 916 Eagle Avenue in the Bronx for in-person support. We provide Macbooks, hotspots and headphones to our students.

Our students utilize design thinking and project-based learning to identify a problem that is culturally relevant and worth solving, make a prototype, test their design and present it to real stakeholders.

To round out the student experience, we also offer wellness and restorative practices, lunchtime and afterschool activities like coding, music production and podcasting, Epic Theatre Ensemble, an after school theatre-arts program, and student-led youth advocacy groups.

Current grade 8 students living in NYC can visit MySchools.nyc and add 08X636 to your high school application. You will be added to our waitlist and then receive an offer.

We are almost at capacity for next year's class so please APPLY TODAY. Our next open house is TBD.

The Staff Experience

We believe that all staff members play an important role in the education of our students. Staff have the opportunity to participate in a joyous and sustainable workplace with a manageable schedule. Our teachers work in interdisciplinary teams.

Our staff work in person at 916 Eagle Avenue in the Bronx. or they have the option to work virtually.
